Spousal support serves a very specific purpose; it is meant to make sure that both parties in a divorce are able to adapt to their new life without excessive financial hardship. When your prior marriage was to someone with a serious disability or who was a stay-at-home parent, you may be required to pay alimony. And, for those who are financially dependent, you need an alimony arrangement that helps you survive.
Whether you are establishing or disputing alimony, a lawyer helps ensure that the court considers your needs. Pinnacle Family Law manages dozens of spousal support cases annually. We know how to advocate for you. Call us: (248) 290-8102.
Alimony in Michigan is called spousal support by statute. The court uses a multi-factored analysis similar to the analysis used to divide marital property. The factors the court considers include:
Using this analysis, the court will award spousal support for a specific time period, which may be short and rehabilitative or long-term and either modifiable or nonmodifiable, depending on the factors in the case.
